Complimentary Ticket Types

We recommend creating a separate complimentary ticket type for events to help you better manage, report on, and differentiate complimentary tickets from paid. This is especially useful when:

  • You want the comp ticket to have a different name from your paid tickets (e.g. Sponsor Comp, Family and Friends Comp).

  • You want comp tickets to appear as a separate line item in your reports, rather than being grouped with paid tickets.

  • You have a set allocation of complimentary tickets and want to track usage independently.

How to Create a Complimentary Ticket Type

  1. To add a new ticket type to your event, go to the ‘Tickets’ tab, and click 'Add Ticket'.

  2. Add a ‘Ticket name’ and  ‘Quantity available’.

  3. Click advanced settings, check 'Hide from public' and 'Complimentary ticket' then 'Add ticket'.

How to create an access code for comp tickets

Access Codes allow customers to redeem comp tickets themselves through a specific link that is not available to the general public.  When you issue comp tickets using this method, they’ll appear as a separate line item in both the Sales and Financials reports. While there are a few extra steps involved, the key benefit is that it won’t impact the capacities of your other ticket types, helping you maintain accurate inventory tracking.

  1. Go to the ‘Access codes’ tab and select 'Create code'
  2. Add a ‘Name’ for the access code
  3. To limit the quantity of tickets on this access code toggle ‘Limit quantity’ to the right and add a ‘Ticket quantity’.

  4. Select the complimentary ticket type this code applies to. You'll see a list of all hidden ticket types available to choose from.
  5. Next click ‘Save’.
  6. To create an order go to the orders tab and select ‘Create order’
  7. Select the event and your new ‘Access code’ release
  8. Select the number of tickets to issue
  9. Enter the customers details
  10. Select the ‘Complimentary’  payment method

*Alternatively, you can click ‘copy link’, paste it in your browser and complete steps 8 through 10 and complete the order.

You can also send the access code you set up for complimentary tickets to partners to self-redeem their own complimentary tickets. They will then enter the 'Access code' into the ‘Access code’ box on the main event page to unlock their allocated ticket selection.

How to Mark Paid Tickets as Complimentary at Checkout

You can issue complimentary tickets by creating a standard order and selecting 'Complimentary' as the payment method during checkout.

Why use this method?
This is a quick way to issue tickets, but since it uses existing tickets, complimentary tickets will count toward the ticket capacity.

For example, if the Ticket Type quantity is set to 150 and all 150 tickets are issued, the sales report might show that 10 of these are comp tickets. To sell more paid tickets, you’ll need to increase the ticket capacity to 160 to allow selling 150 paid tickets.

If your event is sold out but you need to issue more complimentary tickets, increase the capacity of a ticket type to make room for the additional comps.

  1. Go to the Orders tab, select Create Order, then choose Paid Order.

  2. Select the order type either ‘Event or membership’, choose the ‘Season’, then choose the ‘Event’, you may need to select the ‘Release option’ then  click Proceed.

  3. Choose the number of tickets to issue.

  4. Select seating by choosing zones and sections on the left, this will allocate the best available seats in your preferred section.

  5. Fill in the customer’s details and click ‘Next’.

  6. Select’ Complimentary’ as the payment method, then click ‘Issue Complimentary Tickets’.

Optional: Add a reason for issuing the complimentary ticket (this note is internal only).

  • Keep 'Send order confirmation to customer' checked to email the tickets immediately, or uncheck it to send later.

How to Bulk Issue Complimentary Tickets

To bulk issue comp tickets, you’ll first need to:

  • Create a separate comp ticket type
  • Create an access code linked to that comp ticket
  • Publish your event
Once these steps are complete you can upload your comp tickets in bulk.

  1. Go to the orders tab, then select 'Create Bulk Orders'
  2. Select your ‘Event’ and the ‘Release’ then select  ‘Download template’.

  3. Complete the template and save as a csv file. All the columns with asterisk are mandatory, this includes first name, last name, postcode, send confirmation email and number of tickets.
  4. Return to Flicket and select 'Upload' to upload your complete template then select 'Submit'
  5. You’ll then receive an email confirmation to let you know which orders were successfully uploaded.
